Research; "What is the effect of stretching the hip flexors on running technique?"

"What is the effect of stretching the hip flexors on running technique?"
Are you curious about your running technique or do you aspire to improve it?
Do you spend many hours sitting weekly due to work or study?
If so, take advantage of this opportunity to receive a free, high-quality running analysis as part of a thesis research project supervised by USC Physiotherapy!
When: Sunday, April 14 / Saturday, April 20 / Sunday, April 21
Where: Universum Sports Centre, Science Park 306
Duration: 45 minutes
What you'll gain: a free Runeasi test to get personal insights into your running technique
with physiotherapy advice/exercises to improve it!
Participation criteria:
- Healthy male or female;
- Age: 18-35 years;
- ≥4 days a week, ≥5 hours a day sitting (e.g., for work or study);
- Currently no significant injuries or pain complaints;
- Not pregnant.
What is the purpose of the study?
Prolonged sitting can cause hip flexors to stiffen over time. This can lead to the
leg not being able to move sufficiently backward. Since this movement is important during running,
this limited range of motion can lead to compensations. The aim of this study is to
measure the effect of stretching the hip flexors on running technique.
What does the study involve?
The study takes place in a treatment room at USC Physiotherapy at Science Park 306. First, time will be
taken to ask questions and record personal data. A brief assessment of hip mobility will be conducted, after which the first Runeasi running measurement will
be performed; this takes a maximum of 5 minutes. See uscfysiotherapie.nl/blog for more information about
Runeasi. The researcher will then provide instructions for a short stretching routine lasting 5-10 minutes.
After this, both tests will be performed again.
After this, both tests will be performed again.
What will you gain?
The running measurements will provide data about your running technique. What's going well,
but more importantly: what you can improve. The results will be briefly discussed, and you can
receive advice for improving your running technique.
What is expected of you?
- For the running analysis, wear your usual running clothes and shoes.
- For hip mobility testing, it's important that the range of motion is clearly visible,
so preferably bring sports leggings, shorts, or boxer shorts.
- As fatigue significantly impacts running technique, you should not have engaged in intense exercise up to 10 hours before the
measurement.
- Please arrive 10 minutes early to prevent delays and ensure there is enough time to discuss your
results.
What if I can no longer or no longer wish to participate?
You decide whether to participate in the study, and participation is voluntary. If you decide not to participate after registration,
you can inform us by email without providing a reason. You can also withdraw at any time during
the test session. There are no costs associated with participation or
cancellation.
What happens to my data?
At the time of testing, you will be linked to a code, and your name, phone number, and
email address will be removed to ensure anonymity and privacy. The personal data that will be included in the
study are gender, age, height, and weight. All data remains
confidential.
