patient experience - cruciate ligament rehabilitation

Anterior cruciate ligament rehabilitation for 22-year-old lacross player

How did you end up at USC physical therapy?

During a lacrosse training, I tried the hardest feint ever but my knee was not prepared for that and I went through it all. I studied in Amsterdam and had worked out at USC before, so looking for a physiotherapy practice with experience with knee injuries, I quickly ended up at USC physiotherapy.

What was the diagnosis and what did your treatment look like?

My anterior cruciate ligament was torn and there was a tear in my meniscus. Before my surgery, Guylian helped me enter the operation as strongly as possible. Shortly after surgery, the focus was mainly on keeping the muscles around my knee flexible, and the extension and flexion of my knee. When I finally got off the crutches after eight weeks, we started training strength and mobility. This wasn't my favorite part, but Guylian continued to challenge me, keeping me sharp.

The last part of the rehabilitation was the most fun part; namely field rehabilitation. During field rehabilitation, we started training more and more sports specifically, so that I could also carefully participate in my own lacrosse training sessions. In addition to the field rehabilitation I was still training in the gym myself. My entire rehabilitation took about a year and a half.

I've been lacrosse to the fullest again for a year now with no complaints. I am also fitter than before my injury.

How would you describe the practice?

At USC physiotherapy, I immediately felt taken seriously. Guylian and all the other physios thought along with me during the rehabilitation and everyone was ready to help me. Should I get injured again, I'll be happy to come back!
